What is Laminate?
Laminate floors are… the basis for uncomplicated living par excellence.
Laminate floors
One things for sure: Laminate floors are pretty much everywhere. At the end of the 1970s when laminate flooring first appeared in German living rooms, no-one would have thought that this perfect wood replica would prove such a success. Hardly surprising: Today’s laminate floors are extremely rugged, offer a high degree of individuality and create a pleasant, natural atmosphere in the home.
Uncomplicated living with good reason.
Not all laminates are the same. There are major differences in quality especially in the upper price bracket. How can you tell when a laminate floor is good or not? What should the customer who places the highest demands on quality and finish be aware of? Well the first sign of a good laminate floor is that it is only made from natural materials. It does not contain any PVC, PCB, dioxins or no other chemical binding agents. Ideally, it is for the most part manufactured from domestic wood originating from sustainably managed forests. The following is the basis which makes laminate what it is: a natural, hygienic and non-allergenic floor for life.
Real quality is not only visible at first sight – but especially the second time around: A good floor is characterised by high resistance to light, stain- and abrasive resistance. In other words: A good laminate surface must be resilient and must be able to withstand a lot. No indentations should appear on it even after many years – even nail polish and lit cigarettes can’t damage it.
What matters most alongside the pattern and type of surface which everyone can choose according to their own style and taste are the inner values you don’t see: The European Standard EN 13329 defines the quality features and categorisations in this area. Depending on the area of application, you can use the latest guidelines to compare different floors according to category of use, load-bearing materials, ease of installation and production and inspection reliability.
